A Win by 57 Strokes

We played Gahr at Ironwood and totally destroyed them, 179-236. I shot a season low and possibly a PR of 35, 6 over par. Everything was clicking on all cylinders today. I parred the 1st three holes and then bogeyed the next three. Hole 7, I got a par on that hole but on the next hole, hole 8, I double bogeyed that as I had trouble getting out of the sand. I bogeyed the last hole. I 2-putted every hole. So it feels really good setting a PR in one of the last matches of the season. As a team, it was a good day to play golf. Dylan shot a 31 while Victor shot 34. So we are officially 10-1-1 on the season now if I’m not mistaken.
STAR Testing begins tomorrow. English and Chemistry….Gonna review some chemistry before calling a night. Tonight’s my break from all the calculus I have had the last few days.

A Crazy Week

This week is going to be a tough and crazy week. I have a test every single day, Monday-Saturday. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, its math calculus final. 1000 points, This is it. I have a borderline grade and want it to go up. Wednesday and Thursday are the STAR Test dates. And Saturday, I’m taking the SAT II Math II-C Test. I want to take it once and only once. So its gonna be a tough and hard week but I just have to try my best.

Golfing in the Rain

We had our makeup golf match vs. Long Beach Poly today at Big Rec. It was for the match that we PPD on March 16. Anyways, as we were teeing off, it started raining. It was light at first but then it turned heavy. My whole body, including my shoes, became soaking wet. It was cold and unpleasant. I couldn’t hit the ball that well as it did not go straight. I lost control of the club on a few shots as the club slipped out of my hands on the downswing. The rain got to a point where as we were teeing off on the third hole, the rain came right at us, coming down diagonally. To make matters worse, it was windy too. So rainwater was in our eyes as we were hitting our shots and it sucked. I pulled up on my driver and it went to the fairway of hole 2. We all wanted the coaches to suspend play until the inclement weather passed, like a rain-delay in baseball. When we got to the fourth hole, the rain stopped and it did not rain for the rest of the match. On the 1st three holes, I double-bogeyed each hole. I finished with a 52 as my putting was off. I three putted like 3 holes and couldn’t hit my driver really well.
Despite all that, we TIED. I mean dead even. All 5 of our scores tied with all 5 of Poly’s, 239-239. We were supposed to settle it in a sudden death playoff but the coaches decided to call it a tie. So we are 9-1-1 on the season. Oh would it have been great had there been a playoff to settle this match. We split the first two meetings and now a tie. It was a good experience playing golf in the rain today. Next time, I’ll be bettered prepared for it. I made the mistake of not bringing an umbrella.

8-1

Another day, another match, another victory. We, the Cerritos JV Golf team, beat Gahr’s JV at Cerritos Ironwood to improve to 8-1 on the season. I played bogey golf all day long as I finished with a 9 over par 38. My 38 was the best score of my team and the best of the match. Last three matches, I have been on a roll. Shot a 47 at Los Amigos vs. Downey back on March 24th vs. Downey, 3rd best on team. Yesterday, a 50 which was second best and today, number 1.
For the par 3 short holes, I did not hit the green on any of my 1st shots. I kept hooking the ball right. I had the distance but it kept veering off to the right at the end. So for those holes, I had to chip on and settle for a bogey 4 . My putting was relatively ok. I 3 putted one hole. On hole 6, I hit the ball to the right side of the green on the rough. Chipped and it was at edge of green on the longer grass side. I then putted and holed it, settling for a par. That was my highlight and my only par of the day. Another highlight were my drives. On hole 2, I drove the ball over 200 yards down the middle onto the fairway.  That felt great being able to drive that far. Hole 4, it hooked to the right at tail end but I was ok, just under the tree.
It feels good getting the best score today. Now, my goal is the maintain and improve on what I’m doing. Chipping is still costing me some strokes. That’s the part I’ll have to work on to lower my score. We’ll have more matches as coach mentioned about having additional matches. Consistency is the key down the stretch now.

7-1

First day back from spring break, we had a match at Lakewood GC vs. Mayfair. It was only our second and final league match of the season. Anyways, we beat them 254-272 on a windy, cold day in which there were a few puddles out on the course due to rain earlier in the morning.
I shot a 50 which was second best on the team. I scored either a 5 or 6 on every single whole. 6-5-6-5-5-6-6-6-5. I could’ve and should of done better as my short game cost me a few strokes. My first drives were really good as I hit them smack down the middle and onto the fairway on almost every hole. I got it onto the green within 8 feet on most holes but had to settle for 2 putt on a lot of it.
I was disappointed in myself as I made 2 mistakes on the first hole that cost me two strokes. It took me two strokes to get out of the sand trap left of the green and I chipped it within 4 feet of the hole. The hole broke from left to right and I had positioned it like that. But I changed my mind as I was all set and putted and it rolled past the hole to the right. I had perfect distance and speed and everything. My second and third shots weren’t that strong as I couldn’t hit my hyrbids straight. My irons went the distance I desired but not in the direction. I misjudged the wind in a lot of it.
On the good side, I hit my driver well. Down the middle on almost every hole. I was extremely proud of myself on hole 7, the long 500 yard par 5. Into the wind, I smoked it down the middle and it rolled too. On the 1st hole, I was nervous but after hitting a good drive, I felt much better. So I am hitting the driver really well.
Also today, we got our new black team uniforms with a “Cerritos Golf” inscribed on it. It is pretty cool as it is similar to what Tiger Woods wears. We also got a team hat. So now, we are more like a team. My game is getting better each round. I just have to work on my short game a bit more, second, third shots to shoot in the low to mid-40s, which is my goal. Tomorrow we play Gahr at Ironwood. Last time I shot a embarrassing 48 and tomorrow, I am ought to shoot really well.

On the Freeway

4 months after getting my drivers permit, I have driven on the freeway. Thats what I did today for the first time ever. It was a cool experience. Freeway driving is easier than local as there is no intersections or redlights to worry about. Coming home, my dad pushed me to drive on the freeway. I was hesitant as I was a bit scared. But I got over that fear and drove on the freeway. And I did it during rush-hour traffic.
I got on the 605 Freeway from Carson (next to Long Beach Towne Center). As I was making the turn from Carson onto the on ramp, my legs were shaking and my hands were sweating. But when I followed the car in front of me’s speed and merged onto the 605 Freeway North, everything was fine. I drove in lane 4 (the right-most lane) and went about 50 MPH for a few miles. I reached 65 MPH and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I had full control of the car.
Going onto 91 Freeway East, I changed lanes and used my speed to do it. I was scared merging onto 91 East as from past experiences, I knew it was bumper to bumper traffic. But I managed to get into the freeway quite well. A big 18 wheel truck was next to me and I merged in behind that truck. Then it was a smooth ride along the right-most lane. Traffic wasn’t that bad as I kept speeds of 45 MPH along the 91 Freeway until I exited at Bloomfield.
I got my permit on December 10, 2009 and now in 2 more months from tomorrow, I’ll be able to take my drivers license test. The test should be no problem for me as I have practiced driving well the last 4 months.

Earthquake!

Yesterday’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake caused damaged in my house. It caused the water heater in my garage to split open, causing water to spill out from it. So it flooded our garage and we had a mess to clean up. We had to turn off the water source for our house so we were water-less for the night. We had to shower at my grandma’s house. This morning, people came to replace the water heater. Big money was spent on it. So earthquake damage in my house.
This earthquake was as big as Haiti’s back in January but caused far less damage then Haiti. Only 2 people in Mexacali, Mexico, died. Over 20 million people felt this quake. I did not feel the quake at all as I was filming my spanish project at regional. We were walking on grass at that time, 3:40.
Was this the big one?? Who knows but scientists have predicted that we have to be on earthquake alert for the next 11 days as a aftershock 6.0 quake might rattle us.
