First day back from spring break, we had a match at Lakewood GC vs. Mayfair. It was only our second and final league match of the season. Anyways, we beat them 254-272 on a windy, cold day in which there were a few puddles out on the course due to rain earlier in the morning.
I shot a 50 which was second best on the team. I scored either a 5 or 6 on every single whole. 6-5-6-5-5-6-6-6-5. I could’ve and should of done better as my short game cost me a few strokes. My first drives were really good as I hit them smack down the middle and onto the fairway on almost every hole. I got it onto the green within 8 feet on most holes but had to settle for 2 putt on a lot of it.
I was disappointed in myself as I made 2 mistakes on the first hole that cost me two strokes. It took me two strokes to get out of the sand trap left of the green and I chipped it within 4 feet of the hole. The hole broke from left to right and I had positioned it like that. But I changed my mind as I was all set and putted and it rolled past the hole to the right. I had perfect distance and speed and everything. My second and third shots weren’t that strong as I couldn’t hit my hyrbids straight. My irons went the distance I desired but not in the direction. I misjudged the wind in a lot of it.
On the good side, I hit my driver well. Down the middle on almost every hole. I was extremely proud of myself on hole 7, the long 500 yard par 5. Into the wind, I smoked it down the middle and it rolled too. On the 1st hole, I was nervous but after hitting a good drive, I felt much better. So I am hitting the driver really well.
Also today, we got our new black team uniforms with a “Cerritos Golf” inscribed on it. It is pretty cool as it is similar to what Tiger Woods wears. We also got a team hat. So now, we are more like a team. My game is getting better each round. I just have to work on my short game a bit more, second, third shots to shoot in the low to mid-40s, which is my goal. Tomorrow we play Gahr at Ironwood. Last time I shot a embarrassing 48 and tomorrow, I am ought to shoot really well.
